Amina Bolden is a rising senior at Warren High School in Downey, California. She was initially introduced to the ACT-SO program by her mother. After further research, Amina decided to join because she wanted to improve her performance skills and compete against other talented singers. She competed in the 2017 local San Gabriel Valley ACT-SO branch competition in the Vocal Contemporary category, where she received a gold medal for her performance of the song, Change, by Christina Aguilera. Due to her accomplishments at the local competition, Amina has advanced to compete at the national competition in Baltimore, Maryland this upcoming July!
Three Words to Describe Feelings about National Competition
Grateful, excited and joyful. Amina is grateful because she did not expect to make it this far to advance to the national competition; however, she is so happy to have this opportunity to showcase her talent to the world. She is excited to be surrounded by such great excellence and to learn from professionals with credible experience. Lastly, Amina feels joyful to be able to travel across the country and meet captivating, new people who all have unique stories and talents to share.
Nerves & Excitement
Amina is most nervous about having to perform in front of a large crowd and disappointing herself with her performance. She is looking forward to improving her vocal skills and learning from experienced singers. She also hopes to gain more confidence and singing experience, which she will use in the future to become the best singer that she can possibly be.
“Enjoy what you’re doing, and try to improve upon it the best you can. But, most of all, be confident in your talent.” – Amina Bolden
